Between the Microcentro, Retiro and Recoleta is Plaza San Martin, a bustling area with some of the most famous and architecturally significant buildings in town. The center of the neighborhood is, unsurprisingly, Plaza San Martin itself. One of Buenos Aires largest and prettiest plazas, it features lovely trees that flower in the spring, and at midday the areas teems with business people from the nearby Microcenter, lunching and soaking up sun. Steps away is Florida Street, a large pedestrian mall full of leather shops, restaurants and the beautiful Galerias Pacificos shopping center, considered a national historical landmark. The area is an excellent choice for those who have business in the center, or plan to spend time in San Telmo or Puerto Madero.

Enjoy new Argentine cuisine at artsy Dada, then head for cocktails and an after-work crowd at colorful Le Bar, which hosts various parties throughout the week. Round out the night with the revolving roster of DJ’s and live music at the French-themed La Cigale, or if it’s Tuesday (and you don’t mind throngs of sweaty backpackers) head to Bahrein for the city’s top-rated drum-and-bass night.

Plaza San Martin is adjacent to the areas of Recoleta, with its elegant boutiques and famed Cemetary; the Microcenter, Buenos Aires central business district; the historic, bohemian San Telmo neighborhood; and the renovated waterfront area of Puerto Madero.
