About Puerto Madero
Puerto Madero, formerly a rundown dock area, has undergone a major redevelopment over the past 15 years and is the most modern, clean area of Buenos Aires. A beautiful riverfront esplanade bisects the neighborhood, and is lined with restaurants and cafes. A mix of luxury residential towers and office buildings, Puerto Madero will appeal to those valuing cleanliness, modern amenities and safety. The area’s streets are all named for Argentine female historical figures, and the uniquely asymmetrical Puente de la Mujer (Bridge of the Woman, a footbridge connecting the two sides of the area) pays further homage to the legacy of women in Argentine culture.
At lunchtime, stop for fresh sandwiches, pastries and various artesenal goodies at Dean & Deluca-inspired I Fresh Market. The waterfront is worth seeing at night, and you can enjoy the view from the terrace at Cabana las Lilas, considered one of the top (albeit overpriced) steakhouses in the city, or from Sottovoce with its divine homemade pasta. Later on, a beautiful crowd flocks to sleek Asia de Cuba, which features popular parties several nights a week.
Puerto Madero is adjacent to the Microcenter, Buenos Aires central business district; Plaza de Mayo, the home of Argentina’s President; and the historic, bohemian San Telmo neighborhood.
